U.S. ELECTRIC SKATEBOARD REGULATIONS (BY STATE REGULATIONS)

Electric skateboard laws fall far behind technical capabilities, but the fact that electric skateboards are becoming mainstream means that regulators will be forced to act on them. Most US states have not yet legalized electric scooters. However, in some US states, you can legally ride electric skateboards, which I will outline further below.

Alabama Electric Skateboard law

Electric skateboarding is legal in Alabama.
The driver must have a valid driver's license.
Drivers of the minimum age must be at least 14 or above.
Helmets require drivers over the age of 16 not to wear helmets.
Other regulations prohibit electric scooters on sidewalks, and must comply with all traffic regulations.

Alaska Electric Skateboard Law

It is legal in Alaska.
If it is an electric propulsion system with self-balancing, transporting one person at a time
Maximum speed of 15 mph or less.

Arizona Electric Skateboard law

It is legal in Arizona.
People under 14 years are forbidden to operate any electric skateboard.
Children aged 14 years and older are required to carry consent forms signed by their parents at all times during the ride, limiting the time of electric skateboards on city streets todaytime (before 7 am and after 8 pm).
Limit the speed of the electric skateboard to 25 mph.
No passengers are allowed during electric skateboar

No electric board operators from making excessive noise to require all operators under the age of 18 to wear helmets.

Arkansas Electric Skateboard law

Electric skateboarding is legal in Arkansas.
Don't exceed 15 miles per hour.
You must be 16 or older to drive.

California Electric Skateboard law

Electric skateboards are legal in California.
You have to wear a helmet.
You must be 16 years old.
You must not be affected by alcohol or drugs.
You can only ride on roads with a speed limit below 35 mph.
You can't ride on the highway.
Your e-board must not travel at more than 20 mph.
The power of your electric skateboard must be below 1000W.
Not exceed 15 mph when riding in public places.
When riding at night, there must be a white light in the front, a red mirror at the back, and a yellow mirror on the side. They can be attached to a rider or an electronic board.
Colorado Electric Skateboard law.
Electric long plates at less than 20 miles per hour are under the definition of a bicycle and have the same rights and privileges.

Delaware Electric Skateboard law

Electric skateboards are not allowed on the road in Delaware.

Florida Electric Skateboard law

Electric skateboarding is illegal in Florida.
Although it is illegal to do so. However, Florida law allows motor vehicles with output power of less than 700W and speeds below 32 km / h (20 mph) to travel in certain lanes. The lanes they are allowed to drive include sidewalks and bike lanes, and their use is subject to certain conditions observed by cyclists.

Georgia Electric Skateboard law

Hawaii State Electric Skateboard Law

Electric skateboards are legal in Hawaii.
People under 15 years of age are not allowed to use electric skateboards on highways, streets, roadways, or public places.

An electric scooter can only stand for one rider.

Kentucky Electric Skateboard law

In Kentucky electric skateboard is legal.

Michigan Electric Skateboard Law

Nebraska Electric Skateboard law

There is no clear law provision.
But the traffic rules are still required to be followed, and no sidewalks and bike lanes are allowed.

Nevada Electric Skateboard law

Electric skateboarding is legal in Nevada.
The limits for electric boards are 20 mph and 100 lh. Maximum weight (excluding the rider). If you want to ride an electric skateboard in Nevada, you must be over 16 or older.

New Jersey Electric Skateboard law

Electric skateboards are legal in New Jersey.
You can ride electric skateboards freely on the street without having to worry about law enforcement officers. Although the use of electric skateboards is legal, there are still laws that regulate their use. All electric skateboard riders should always follow these laws. The main limitation of legal enforcement is that you cannot ride on any road with a speed limit above 35 mph (56 km / h). These roads are usually used for cars and vehicles that travel much faster than electric skateboards.

Virginia Electric Skateboard law

Electric skateboards are legal in Virginia.
The electric scooter has a weight limit of 100 pounds. Virginia has a top speed of 20 mph. Passengers must also be 14 years old and must not travel on the highway.

New York State Electric Skateboard law

Electric skateboarding is legal in New York City.
You must have a driver's license or equivalent identification to ride an electric skateboard. Do not ride an electric skateboard on sidewalks, bike lanes, or crosswalks at any time.

Although more and more riders enter the electric skateboard community, the electric skateboard is still illegal in many places in the United States, and even the laws and regulations of every city differ. We try to understand the local laws and regulations before riding to avoid unnecessary trouble.

Some states have the same bike or electric scooter regulations. If your state has no clear regulations, please refer to the bike or electric scooter regulations.
